I've heard someone say that this quest will get a major overhaul (read: actually appropriate rewards) in an upcoming update. I agree that it's pretty lame as it stands: I've been there and brought Galrath low, but I haven't troubled myself to return to Lion's Arch for the reward.
By the way, while you're down there: the Hill Giants in the bend just north of the Verata cultists drop a great deal (multiple hundreds) of gold coins and occasionally good items. They aren't really farmable, given how far they are from the entry point, but it's helpful to know that they're there, and if you've made it that far, the giants should be a pushover.

my R/E went from ToA to do this quest and got all the way there, and ended up getting slaughtered in a mess of guys. Didn't really find the 'good' way to head up to Galrath yet though...

This quest is COMPLETELY ridiculous for its reward. Seriously, 500xp and a 50 gold item (that I managed to sell to some poor guy needing a better sword for 270 gold and 6 iron ingots) for a trip that is similar to just walking into Hell.
I found my way to ToA and noticed a group forming for Villainy. Figured, what the hell, and signed up.
Best PU group I've ever been a part of (thanks to Thanatos and the others, if you remember me, shauna wolfsclaw ), we were completely owning everything all the way up to the actual tower.
But then those lvl 20 archers and that idiot boss nearly ganked our whole team twice, only 2 of 8 people left alive. Fortunately I'm a monk and was able to ress our team back to health.
When you do get to Galrath, he is a joke. lvl 11 bandit minions, and he himself is only level 20, and he dies in like 10 seconds from concerted attacks from a group of eight.
We wound up exploring the whole of Kessex Peak since we had such a good time with our group.
The quest isn't worth it, but I had a tremendous amount of fun with the group I was in. GG guys
I do hope they overhaul it, because it's completely not worth doing. Btw, the timing of the quest makes no sense either. Galrath is a white mantle, but you get the quest at the point where you, as a new player, believe that the white mantle are a bunch of good guys. So for you to be sent out to kill a white mantle guy is VERY confusing (it was to me anyways). I thought Galrath was that lich guy you see in the cutscene before you get to Lion's Arch

Galrath is the true friends quest. Go on this quest and you will find out who your true friends are. I went back to this quest as a lvl 20 to do it, because I can not stand to have uncompleted quests. It will test your mettle, although you only gain 500xp from the quest, you get a lot of loot and the monsters are pretty hi lvls so you get exp from them. I think between 20-24. Met a guy on my trek Lover Soul, have partied with this guy/girl 3 or 4 times, and everytime has been a stand up player. I recommend Galrath for Guild tryout. If you want members in your guild that have good attitudes help them get galrath, and see how they do.

Still that quest needs fixing, the voyage there is long, full of enemies (and if you try it the moment it becames avaible they are well above your level) with a very low payoff (its not ashes, when you see a 1.000 xp quest you know its not going to be a cake walk).
Either they up the reward or they sould create a alternative entry to there and lower the mobs, perhaps making those lv20 go away when the quest is active.

I think that this quest is absolutely ridiculous. I still have not beaten it yet and am waiting until my E/Mo gets to level 20 to do it. We should get at least 2000 exp for the trouble. Maybe a bit of gold too? The Red-Cloaked Deserter was much easier and you got 1,000 exp.

Erm, they patched it yesterday. It gives 4000 experience now.

I would rank this mission 2nd in difficulty to Elona's reach before ascension! Oh mine...those minotsurs.....tore up my warriors like cake...facing 7-8 of them together!!

I had a rather good team and we made it on the first try. Some deaths though. The 500xp was lousy though, good thing they changed it.

Yes I just heard that he gives you 4,000 exp for each person when you kill him. A rather nice reward! I heard that he has an elite skill that you can capture for warriors. Is that true?

Isn't he supposed to be a wizard? I mean, I could be wrong, but it would be weird for Galrath to be a warrior.

He's a warrior. I have no idea if he has an Elite though.

This is a great quest! Its all about teamwork and leaving for the quest from ToA in order to have a group of 8. I have done it twice now and will do it again I think Wednesday night ( hint Rayawni ) Staying in a tight group and keeping the Mobs close so AoE spells have greatest effect are key.

Guild Recruiting Quest
Those who say that Galrath makes an excellent tryout mission are absolutely correct. I recently invited one player into my guild as a result of this quest, when a party of 8, no ascended, people completed the quest with 0 deaths among us. Admittedly, the army of 15 bone minions and 2 fire nukers helped :P, but it was simply an excellent group, any of which I would be happy to play with again. I plan on using this mission to recruit more people into my guild. It gives you quality, something no guild can be enough of.
